Making your organ donation decision

There are many reasons why a person may wish to be an organ donor. For some, it is about giving to someone in need, while for others it simply makes sense to give what they have no further use for. Consider the following when making your decision about organ donation:

  • Over 4,000 Canadians are waiting for a life-saving organ transplant.
  • In 2010, 247 Canadians died on the wait list.
  • One organ donor can save up to 8 lives

What others say about organ donation

"I signed my card as I can't use them [my organs] when I am gone but there are many others out there who could. I not only signed the card but I told those close to me that I have, so that there is no debate about my wishes when the time comes."--Stephanie

"I signed my card because I know how life-giving an organ donation can be, and if I can one day make that difference in someone's life, I would be honoured."--Barb

"I figured if my death can leave something behind that someone is grateful for, then why not just sign the card?"--Katie
