“I think it is fantastic that we are able to bring Give2Live across the country, support those transplant patients and their families who need our help, and promote the wonderful work of organ donors,” said Campbell.
“Hélène has done wonders for bringing awareness to the importance of being an organ donor in Canada. We are happy to have her in Winnipeg to encourage Manitobans to talk about organ donation with their families and register on SignUpForLife.ca,” said Dr. Faisal Siddiqui, an organ donor physician with the Gift of Life program.
The Gift of Life program, Tissue Bank of Manitoba and the Province of Manitoba launched the SignUpForLife.ca registry in April 2011. It helps doctors and health professionals easily access donor records and work with a potential donor’s family to honour their choice.
“Hélène is living proof of how important and special the gift of being an organ donor is. Each and every one of us has the ability to be someone’s hero, and it all starts by becoming an organ donor,” said Health Minister, Erin Selby. “Hélène is truly an inspiration to us all. I commend her strength and thank her for bringing a heightened awareness to the importance of organ donation.”
