TRANSPLANT MANITOBA CELEBRATES REACHING 10,000 REGISTRANTS ON SIGNUPFORLIFE.CA

Today, Manitoba’s online organ and tissue donor registry, www.SignUpForLife.ca, has over 10,000 people signed up to be organ and tissue donors. The organ donation program, the province of Manitoba and the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority called upon Manitobans to sign up in support of National Organ and Tissue Donor Awareness Week that ran April 21 - 26.

“What a great way to kick off the second year for Sign Up For Life by reaching a new milestone,” said Health Minister Erin Selby.  “It was an honor to stand with Kristin Millar, a heart donor recipient and Ian Goodall-George, a living kidney donor last Wednesday as we marked the anniversary of the campaign. It shows that the more we raise awareness on organ and tissue donation and how important it is, the more people we get signing up,” said Selby.

Every Manitoban who signs up as an organ donor can potentially save up to eight lives and dramatically enhance 75 more with the addition of tissue donation.

““We know that you are six times more likely to need an organ transplant than to be a donor. Manitobans are generous people who want to help and they are doing that by registering on SignUpForLife.ca,” said Dr. Faisal Siddiqui an organ donation physician with Transplant Manitoba’s Gift of Life program.
